Camikara Wins Rum Brand of the Year

Share

Global recognition for Indian rum has arrived with conviction. Camikara Rum Brand of the Year now headlines a powerful shift in the global spirits narrative. India’s pure cane juice aged rum is no longer a quiet contender. Instead, it stands confidently on the world stage, redefining premium Indian sipping rum while celebrating the country’s deep sugarcane heritage. With Camikara claiming the prestigious ‘Rum Brand of the Year’ title at The Spirits Business Awards 2025 in London, the spotlight firmly shifts toward India’s evolving craft spirits movement.

For decades, global rum conversations revolved around Caribbean legends and Latin American producers. Meanwhile, India despite being among the world’s largest sugarcane producers—remained largely absent from premium rum discussions. That paradox is now being challenged. Camikara emerges as a bold statement of intent. Distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and matured in American oak barrels under North India’s climate, the rum reflects a terroir-driven identity rarely associated with the Indian alcobev landscape.

The triumph at The Spirits Business Awards 2025 marks a historic milestone. Camikara became the first Indian rum ever to win the coveted ‘Rum Brand of the Year’ honour. By surpassing established rum labels from traditional powerhouses like the Caribbean and Latin America, the brand has not only secured international acclaim but also repositioned India within the premium rum conversation.

Camikara’s story is rooted in authenticity. The rum is crafted entirely from fresh sugarcane juice rather than molasses, aligning it with the celebrated Rhum Agricole style. Importantly, the spirit contains no added colour, flavour, sugar, or additives. Ageing in American oak barrels under intense northern Indian temperatures allows the liquid to develop depth, character and complexity traits that increasingly resonate with modern rum connoisseurs seeking purity and provenance in their glass.

The brand is produced by Piccadily Agro Industries, which has positioned Camikara as a pioneering Indian sipping rum. Available in aged expressions such as 3-year, 8-year and 12-year variants, the label continues to push India’s craft spirits narrative forward. Each expression highlights how climate, sugarcane quality and oak maturation combine to create a distinctly Indian rum identity.

Beyond one award, the momentum continues. Camikara 3YO also secured a Gold Medal at the prestigious Rum & Cachaça Masters Awards 2025 in London, reinforcing the brand’s growing international credibility. The competition, organised by The Spirits Business, gathers expert judges from across the global spirits industry, making the win a powerful endorsement of quality and craftsmanship.

Industry leaders see this victory as more than a brand milestone. It signals a broader revival of India’s historic connection with cane spirits. Long before whisky dominated the market during the colonial era, sugarcane-based beverages were already deeply embedded in India’s cultural and agricultural fabric. The modern premium rum movement is now rediscovering that legacy, translating it into contemporary craftsmanship and global recognition.

“By championing pure cane-juice aged rum and allowing India’s terroir to shape its character, Camikara has challenged outdated notions of what Indian rum can achieve. This remarkable international win is more than an accolade—it is a defining milestone for India’s rum category and strengthens Camikara’s position as a powerful Indian contender on the world stage. We’ve gone from being overlooked to leading the conversation,” said Shalini Sharma, Head of Marketing, Piccadily Agro Industries Limited.

The rise of Camikara therefore represents something larger than a single bottle. It represents confidence in Indian craft spirits. It celebrates the country’s sugarcane legacy. Most importantly, it proves that premium rum from India can compete—and win—on the world stage.

In every sense, Camikara is not simply another rum label. It is a statement that India’s liquid gold has finally arrived.
