Once Upon a Chocotales: My Evening at Le Méridien New Delhi’s World Chocolate Day Celebration
Stepping into The Atrium at Le Méridien New Delhi on World Chocolate Day felt like entering a fairytale made of cocoa. The entire space had been transformed into a whimsical chocolate wonderland, and I was lucky to be a part of this indulgent celebration. The aroma of rich couverture chocolate floated through the air, mingling with laughter, awe, and the gentle clink of dessert forks.

From the moment I arrived, I was drawn into a fantastical cocoa kingdom. Themed décor, interactive tasting counters, and artistic chocolate elements were thoughtfully curated to ignite all the senses. But the real showstopper was the grand unveiling of “Once Upon a Chocotales”—a towering 5-foot-tall chocolate bar weighing an astounding 300 lbs. Crafted entirely from pure Casa Luker couverture chocolate, this jaw-dropping piece was created by the hotel’s award-winning pâtisserie team under the leadership of Chef Davinder Kumar, Vice President – F&B Production. Chef Vineet Khanna and Mr Gitanshu Jetly walked us through the lavish buffet, unveiling one culinary delight after another and making our experience seamless and delightful.

The sculpture wasn’t just massive—it was magical. A tribute to craftsmanship, fantasy, and the timeless joy of chocolate, it stood like a monument to everything this indulgent treat represents. As the curtain dropped and the installation was revealed, a wave of awe swept across the crowd. I heard someone behind me whisper, “I’m chocolate-struck,” and honestly, I couldn’t have said it better.
Adding gravitas to the evening were two very special guests—His Excellency, the Ambassador of Belgium to India, and Her Excellency, the Ambassador of Mexico to India. Their presence beautifully tied in the deep-rooted cultural and historical significance of chocolate, from the ancient cacao rituals of Mesoamerica to the elegant pralines of Brussels.

The evening wasn’t just about tasting; it was about storytelling. A fun round of chocolate trivia added a dash of learning and laughter to the experience. We delved into fascinating facts about the origins of cacao in Mexico and its refined evolution in Belgium—reminding us how global and cherished chocolate truly is.

By the end of the evening, I walked away not just with a sugar rush, but with a heart full of admiration for the creativity and passion behind every chocolate element. Le Méridien New Delhi didn’t just celebrate World Chocolate Day—they turned it into a multi-sensory memory, and I felt privileged to be a part of it.
