‘Rail Ki Baat’ Captivates Chandigarh with a Journey Through India’s Diversity

Captivating theatrical production celebrates India’s unity in diversity!

The auditorium at Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, Chandigarh, came alive with applause as students of Vivek High School (VHS), Mohali presented their theatrical production, ‘Rail Ki Baat’, delivering a heartwarming performance that beautifully captured the essence of life, emotions and human relationships through the setting of an Indian railway station and a memorable train journey.

Featuring 65 students from Grade IX, the approximately 90-minute production was directed by Chakresh Kumar, Founder of Alankar Theatre. The play entertained the audience with humorous and relatable encounters between passengers from different parts of the country, highlighting India’s rich cultural diversity and the spirit of ‘unity in diversity’.

Sharing her thoughts on the production, Ms Jaswinder Gandhok, Principal, Vivek High School, Mohali, said, ”‘Rail Ki Baat’ beautifully reflects the diversity, warmth and resilience of our nation. Through engaging storytelling, music, dance and humour, the play showcased the many facets of everyday life while celebrating the values that connect people across cultures and regions.”

She applauded the students for their dedication and stage presence, adding that their expressive performances, confidence and teamwork received immense appreciation from the audience. “I am extremely proud of every student who participated in this production,” she said.

Blending theatre, music, dance and expressive movement, the production portrayed the hopes, challenges, emotions and shared experiences of people from different backgrounds, offering an engaging reflection of India’s cultural richness and collective spirit.

Principal Gandhok further emphasised that Vivek High School, Mohali remains committed to holistic education by encouraging students to explore the performing arts as a means of building creativity, confidence, collaboration and effective communication skills.

The successful presentation of ‘Rail Ki Baat’ once again highlighted the role of theatre in nurturing self-expression, character development and experiential learning while showcasing the remarkable talent, commitment and enthusiasm of the school’s young performers.
