Pharmaceutical entrepreneurs Abhinav Garg and Mehak Aggarwal have launched their new book, Killing Cancer: 13 Secrets of the High-Stakes Drug Manufacturing World, offering readers a rare glimpse into the realities of pharmaceutical manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

Unveiled at a press conference in Chandigarh, the book draws on the authors’ extensive experience in the oncology drug manufacturing sector. It explores the challenges, responsibilities and decision-making processes involved in producing medicines that impact millions of lives globally.

Speaking at the launch, Abhinav Garg said the book aims to present an honest picture of the pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem. Spread across 13 chapters, it covers topics such as regulatory compliance, quality management, supply chain resilience, entrepreneurship, manufacturing setbacks and leadership in highly regulated environments.

“Many entrepreneurs believe obtaining a drug licence is the final milestone, whereas it is only the beginning,” said Garg. “Maintaining WHO-GMP standards, validating suppliers, adhering to standard operating procedures and meeting evolving regulatory requirements are continuous responsibilities that become more demanding as businesses grow.”

The authors emphasized that Killing Cancer is not a technical handbook but a collection of practical lessons intended for entrepreneurs, industry professionals, healthcare practitioners, regulators and curious readers interested in understanding how medicines reach patients.

Mehak Aggarwal said the book was inspired by a desire to bridge the gap between public perception and the realities of pharmaceutical production. “Medicines are often viewed simply as products, but behind them lies a complex chain of decisions, regulations, challenges and human accountability. We wanted to present that world in an accessible and transparent manner,” she said.

The book also highlights the critical nature of manufacturing life-saving medicines, where even minor errors can have significant consequences. According to the authors, understanding the connection between manufacturing decisions and patient outcomes shapes every aspect of quality, compliance and leadership.

Apart from her role in the pharmaceutical sector, Mehak has also explored fashion and modelling since 2024. She noted that her experiences across industries have provided valuable perspectives on leadership and credibility. “The pharmaceutical industry demands consistency, competence and accountability. These experiences have greatly influenced the lessons shared in this book,” she said.

Discussing India’s position in global healthcare, the authors highlighted the country’s growing contribution to generic medicine production and the importance of pharmaceutical hubs such as Baddi in Himachal Pradesh.

“India plays a vital role in supplying affordable medicines across the world,” said Garg. “As the sector advances towards complex generics, biosimilars and personalised medicine, there is a growing need for leaders who understand both science and business. We hope this book adds value to that conversation.”

Killing Cancer seeks to provide aspiring entrepreneurs and industry professionals with practical insights into one of the world’s most demanding and impactful industries.
