The Economic DNA of Bharat’ Explores India’s Civilisational Path to Viksit Bharat 2047
Chandigarh, What lies beneath Bharat’s ability to adapt, rebuild and continually reinvent itself? Dr. Monica B. Sood’s new book, The Economic DNA of Bharat, published by Simon & Schuster India, explores this question by looking beyond conventional economic indicators to examine the civilisational forces that have shaped Bharat’s economic character.
Speaking to journalists during a media interaction in Chandigarh, Dr. Sood—an Ayurveda expert, entrepreneur, political commentator and thought leader—said the book connects Bharat’s ancient heritage with its contemporary economic journey and future aspirations. Spread across ten chapters, it offers a perspective on the country’s transformation towards Viksit Bharat 2047.
She defines this DNA through three core ideas: D—Dharma, N—Nirman and A—Atmanirbharta, representing values, nation-building and self-reliance.
The book examines how enterprise, knowledge, innovation, community, resilience, inclusion, ethical prosperity and strategic independence have evolved across different periods of Indian history. Ancient Bharat demonstrated these strengths through trade, agriculture, medicine, knowledge systems, governance and community networks, while contemporary India reflects them through digital infrastructure, start-ups, indigenous manufacturing, financial inclusion, technology and strategic capabilities.
Dr. Sood also explores the relationship between economics and national psychology. She argues that an economy is influenced not only by capital, labour and policy, but also by the way people think about prosperity—what they value, save, consume, create and invest in.
The book brings together economics, history, psychology, civilisation, public policy and future studies, presenting Bharat as more than an economic system—a civilisation with a distinct economic personality.
The intellectual journey behind the book is also deeply influenced by Dr. Sood’s late father, Paramjit Kumar. She credits his ideas and writings, including concepts such as Fiscal Quantum and Integral Capitalism, with encouraging her to explore the deeper forces that shape economies and societies.
The Economic DNA of Bharat carries a Foreword by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of Law and Justice, along with messages and endorsements from several eminent public figures, including Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab; Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs; Prof. S.P.
