Rita Kalra Takes Charge as Rotary District Governor, Renu Chopra Leads Rotary Midtown

Chandigarh ;  Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown marked a landmark leadership transition during its Golden Jubilee celebrations as Dr. Rita Kalra assumed office as District Governor of Rotary International District 3080, while Rtn. Renu Chopra took over as the 50th President of Rotary Club Chandigarh Midtown for the Rotary year 2026–27.

The installation ceremony was held at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector 43, reaffirming the Club’s commitment to community service across Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula.

The ceremony was attended by Punjab Governor and UT Chandigarh Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria as the Chief Guest. Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Alka Sareen, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, was the Guest of Honour, while Past Rotary International President Rajendra K. Saboo attended as the Special Guest. Senior Rotary leaders, dignitaries and members from across District 3080 were also present.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria appreciated Rotary’s contribution to healthcare, education, environmental conservation, skill development and humanitarian service. He also lauded the increasing participation of women in leadership, expressing confidence that the new team would further strengthen Rotary’s impact across the region.

After taking charge as District Governor, Dr. Rita Kalra called upon Rotarians to uphold Rotary’s values of ethical leadership, inclusivity and meaningful service. She encouraged members to work together on sustainable projects that create a lasting difference in society.

In her first address as President, Rtn. Renu Chopra said it was an honour to lead the Club during its Golden Jubilee year. She shared her vision of expanding community outreach through initiatives focused on women empowerment, youth development, healthcare, education, environmental sustainability and stronger collaboration with civic institutions across the Tricity.

The Club also acknowledged the contributions of outgoing President Rtn. Jagwinder Singh Bawa and his Board of Directors for successfully leading the organisation during 2025–26 and strengthening its service initiatives. The newly elected Board of Directors for 2026–27 officially assumed office during the ceremony, which concluded with a reaffirmation of Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and this year’s international theme, “Create Lasting Impact.”
