A number of new features already available on WhatsApp appears to have begun to be built by signal. Just days after the instant messaging app welcomed a flood of new users, the new updates became apparent. The increase in popularity of Signal has come in the aftermath of a WhatsApp privacy policy change that has spiraled into public uproar. Chat wallpapers are among the improvements that Signal has in the works that imitate WhatsApp. An ‘About’ option that looks identical to the one on WhatsApp could also be added by Signal.

Signal 5.3.1 beta for Android carries the latest chat wallpaper feature, as noted by WhatsApp beta tracker WA Beta Info. You can access it by going to Settings > Appearance > Wallpaper for Chat. 21 pre-set wallpapers are available to choose from, while users can also add their own photos on the app as chat wallpapers. Also, available is an option to set a dark theme to dim the chat wallpaper.

For quite some time now, WhatsApp has had chat wallpapers. In December, it also added custom wallpapers for chats. There is also the custom ‘About’ option in the new Signal beta, which allows users to inform their contacts about their status. It is available under the Profile option in the Signal app settings menu. WhatsApp has a ‘About’ choice that is close.

In the new update, Signal has also added support for animated stickers, with the first official animated sticker pack being ‘Day by Day’. As noted by WA Beta Data, the Signal desktop app also enables users to make new animated stickers and share them directly with their friends. In July last year, animated stickers landed on WhatsApp. It also officially brings the ability in the coming weeks to import third-party animated stickers.

Signal also adds a low-data mode, which is already available on WhatsApp, for calls. The app will also allow users to look at their chats on the iOS sharing sheet, which WhatsApp introduced to iPhone users last year. Earlier this week, Signal provided the opportunity to let users select when they should update their media files automatically.

The app also recently changed the cap from five members to eight on group calls. On WhatsApp, all these characteristics are already present. In April, the Facebook-owned app raised its community call limit to eight individuals. The choice to allow users to build a shareable community invite connection is also said to have been introduced by Signal. This also works on WhatsApp, similar to how you would invite people to your groups.
