As part of its philanthropic work, India’s most trusted consumer electronics and smartphone brand Samsung India today chipped in INR 2 crore to the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority. With the novel gesture, the company has shown its resolve to manage the crisis and render succor.
In addition to this, the Company also provided help for thousands of migrant and non-regular workers in the districts of Kanchipuram and Cuddalore by contributing grocery packets. This will suffice the need for the districts in managing their daily requirements for approximately two weeks.
According to our report, these funds will be utilized by The state’s Disaster Management Authority to procure Personal Preventive Equipment (PPE) kits, ventilators, and medical equipment. The fund will also help authority for the creation of quarantine and isolation facilities, making the investment in public healthcare infrastructure and streamlining supplying ration chain for migrant laborers and the homeless in the state of Tamil Nadu.
According to information shared with High on Persona by Samsung India, Company has earmarked INR 20 crore to support the Central government as well as state governments in their fight against the pandemic. It has recently contributed of INR 15 crore to the PM CARES Fund.
According to our reports, Thiru MC Sampath, Minister for Industries, Tamil Nadu stated, “Tamil Nadu government welcomes the contribution from Samsung India in our fight against this pandemic. This will go a long way in fulfilling that vision and strengthen our bonds with the Company which has a large manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur.”
Sharing information with High on persona, Peter Rhee, Corporate Vice President, Samsung India said, “Corporates have an important role in supporting governments and community during crises such as the one we are facing right now. In Tamil Nadu, while we continue to support the community around our manufacturing unit in Sriperumbudur, we also engaged with local authorities to understand how Samsung can contribute meaningfully. Our contribution to the Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority is a part of that commitment,” informed Peter Rhee.
Moreover, employees of Samsung across India have also made their personal contribution and the company will donate the total amount to the PM Cares Fund in the coming weeks. Samsung has also played a crucial role in providing support to hospitals with the necessary equipment required to fight the pandemic. As part of its drive to extend support Samsung has provided thousands of preventive masks, Persona preventive equipment kits, gloves, preventive eyewear, hood cap, shoe cover, surgeon gowns to the hospitals.
As part of its citizenship program Samsung Smart Healthcare, Samsung has also hastened deliveries of Digital X-ray and Ultrasound machines to government hospitals. And recent deliveries by the company have been to hospitals in Noida, Rajkot, and Pune. The company has stated that. the Samsung Digital X-ray and Digital Ultrasound machines will aid in quick diagnostics.
